Awards

In 2006 Angela from Truly Scrumptious won the Voted Outstanding Wedding Supplier (VOWS) award in the Individual Excellence in Service category.

Since the awards were introduced in 2005 Truly Scrumptious has been nominated each year in the Cake Designer category. That's quite some achievement given the number and quality of other companies out there.

In September 2009 Paul Bradford was awarded the coveted Disciples de Escoffier.

Background

Inspired by his gran, Paul Bradford has always had a passion for cake decorating.

Paul went to Telford college to learn baking and cake design and afterwards went to work in Oliphant's bakery in Linlithgow. Initially starting as a baker Paul soon carved out a niche for himself in the cake department. Looking to enhance his skills Paul moved to Top Tier Designer Cakes in Glasgow in early 2001. In early 2002 Paul had a fantastic opportunity to open a small studio in Linlithgow to start up his own cake business.

Very quickly Paul's designs became popular and it wasn't long before he was looking for bigger premises. In May 2003 he opened his first shop at 159 High Street, Linlithgow.

David had been helping Paul out with the admin tasks and in 2005 had an opportunity to take a career break from his role with the Scottish Government.

In September 2006 cake production and baking was moved to the Unit on Braehead Road, Linlithgow. The extra capacity and staff allowed the second shop to open in Corstrphine in April 2007.

Very shortly afterwards Jenners were in touch asking if we would like to work with them as an in-store concession. This had come about because the House of Fraser Head Buyer had been stuck in a traffic jam outside our shop and loved the cakes in the window! We opened in Jenners Princes Street in January 2008 and at Loch Lomond Shores in the May.

At our peak we employed 24 staff. However there was a conflict with our core values in that quantity became more important than quality. Having made a number of changes, which included closing the shop in Corstophine in February 2009, we now operate a strict ceiling on the number of orders taken each week. This way the designers can focus on quality and going that extra mile to create the WOW factor.

The Team

Paul and David are equal partners.

David looks after the general management, marketing, finance and business development.

Paul looks after the design quality and the overall image of the business. On top of this Paul carries out the training at the Sugarcraft School and makes the extremely challenging cakes.

Shop 

Jane looks after all the orders and enquiries and works with Marion and Sarah who as well as helping with customers they create cakes from the shop.

Unit 

Angela is our Unit Supervisor with designers Lynn & Hilary. Agata looking after the baking and also producing a number of cakes herself.

Cameron looks after the deliveries.

Jenners Edinburgh

Joy and Laura take orders in Jenners, both are employed by House of Fraser.

Jenners Loch Lomond Shores

Lenny takes the orders here who is also employed by House of Fraser.
